Bora Bora Manta Ray - Mark Mothersbaugh
“the manta ray footage was shot on a consumer quality digicorder six years ago during my honeymoon with my wife anita.  the manta kept swimming big figure eights in the dark, but was circling back to the dock of the old bora bora hotel, her mouth wide open straining the water for tiny sea life attracted to the light bulb hanging from the dock.  i leaned over and got as close to the water as i could, filming a beautiful creature who i figured had no idea we were there, filming.  until on one pass, she gently lifted a wing and tapped on the lens of my camera, never interrupting her graceful arc.
the music was written soon after, inspired by my first reading of a draft of the as yet unshot film script, the life aquatic, by wes anderson.  the music never made it into the film, but always hung around, waiting for this chance to be heard.”
